Hey Jazz Guitar Lifers and welcome to the ninth Jazz Guitar Life podcast featuring the renowned educator, composer and performer, John Stein. Jazz Guitar Life had the pleasure of interviewing John once before which you can read here!
Jazz Guitar Life “sat down” with the renowned Jazz Guitarist and Berklee educator John Stein to talk about his latest two CD release Lifeline alongside the harrowing medical condition John faced which gave rise to the two CD retrospective. An inspiring and insightful chat that offers a “fly-on-the-wall” look into the life of a most dedicated musician and teacher.
John has also graciously provided Jazz Guitar Life with two original compositions from Lifeline – one at the beginning of the interview and one at the end – so be sure to check those tunes out. It will provide some great context!
As always, I’d love to hear or read your feedback so don’t be shy 🙂

Hi Lyle, what a fabulous interview with John! I met John in Zaragoza, Spain in 2017 when he was teaching at the Berkeley school in Valencia. I was in Zara on a sabbatical..we live in NZ! October is Jazz Month in Spain and he and Mingo German did two gigs in Zaragoza! We have been friends ever since! He mentioned the Lifeline project last year while he began his recovery from MG. He emailed me that his record company wanted to help him out and suggested the complication CD project! He is a very inspirational person! GREAT INTERVIEW!!!!! Cheers, Kirk
Thanks Kirk for sharing your memories and for a great comment. I am very glad that you enjoyed the interview and I will make sure that John sees this comment 🙂
Thanks again and take care.
All the best.

Wonderful interview. I’ve been teaching breathing like a saxophone since the 60s. Very important to get phrasing down
Thanks so much Dom for giving the podcast a listen 🙂
