Matt Warnock and Roddy Ellias

A rekindling of past loves forged the genesis of my custom semi-hollow electric guitar. Echoing cherished memories of my old 1978 and 1981 Ibanez Artists, and borrowing from the Gibson 339 body shape, I embarked on a journey with Jubilee Original Guitars to breathe life into a dream guitar.

Jon and Keith of Jubilee played pivotal roles, from the design to the final touch, every stage was a testament to craftsmanship. The locally-sourced pine body pairs impeccably with a book-matched curly maple top, stained in mesmerizing black/blue. The maple neck is an ode to the forests of my youth, with intricate curly maple double binding and a rosewood fretboard adorned with mother-of-pearl inlays.

Sonically, this guitar is reminiscent of a vibraphone, possessing a mallet-like, percussive quality that’s distinctly unique. The emotion it exudes when played is palpable; a reflection of the memories attached to it. A tribute to my roots, its timbre is shaped by Maxon/Ibanez vintage mini humbucker and Super 58 neck pickup, while D’addario chromes .11 strings bring forth its voice.

Beyond its auditory and aesthetic beauty, this guitar is a sentimental voyage. Much of its wood is harvested from the very forests I roamed in my younger days. But, the most heartfelt aspect of this instrument is the reconnection with Keith. Known to me for nearly four decades, our collaboration after 20+ years apart made this guitar more than just an instrument; it became a symbol of rekindled friendships and a homage to our shared past.
