Coming September 29th to a streaming platform near you is the latest release from Jazz Guitarist Cecil Alexander and his musical partner (and wife) Ari. Simply titled Duos, it is “…a collection of songs we consider classics spanning from George Shearing to Cat Stevens as well as a couple of originals.” – Ari
She also notes:
“All of the music that we included on this specific record felt special to perform duo. Something in the tenderness and patience of all of the songs feels connected. There are no overdubs on this record, and it is recorded live. Some of the songs were just one take such as “yesterday is a snake oil salesman.” Although this song may be of a darker and more avantgarde tone compared to the rest of the record, it catapulted the entire project.”
Ari
This sounds like a truly enjoyable project and will no doubt be a wonderfully intimate and joyous celebration of guitar and voice.
If you’re already familiar with Cecil‘s great playing then it may come as no surprise that Kurt Rosenwinkel – a tremendous player in his own right – “…was an instant fan” upon hearing Cecil play. If you are unaware of Cecil’s playing, then definitely check him out 🙂
As mentioned above, Duos is set for digital release across all streaming platforms on September 29th. Their latest single is a simple rendition of “Here, There and Everywhere” by The Beatles which you can view below, along with a video of their first single “Yesterday Is a Snake Oil Salesman”.
